Building Stronger Communities

The Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services and CRC hosted a very successful symposium on Building Stronger Communities Nov. 17.

Community leaders and representatives from the financial services industry were present to discuss challenges and opportunities in underserved communities, focusing specifically on building, preserving and protecting assets.

LANHS President Lori Gay honored CRC during the luncheon for 20 years of serving California Communities.

CRC Associate Director Kevin Stein spoke about predatory mortgage lending on the opening plenary with Lori Gay, Dr. Raphael Bostic, director of the USC Real Estate Development Masters Program, CRC Board Chair Roberto Barragan and Sheldon Cohn of the Budget Finance Company.

Executive Director Alan Fisher presented CRC data about predatory payday lenders and check cashers, overdraft fees and other financial services that strip low-income families of their wealth on a panel discussing best practices in reaching the underserved.
