January 4, 2012-- President Obama has appointed Richard Cordray as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). With a Director, the CFPB now has the authority to start regulating predatory non-bank financial institutions like payday lenders, mortgage originators, and private student lenders.
