Washington Mutual Offers Essential Bank Account

CRC is pleased to announce that Washington Mutual has agreed to offer the Essential Bank Account statewide. The Essential Bank Account is a checkless checking account that CRC and its members believe is a good starter or second chance account for consumers who are currently using check cashers and who are outside of the financial mainstream. The account is designed to help customers avoid overdrawing their accounts and incurring large overdraft fees. It provides money orders, ATM usage and point of sale transactions for customers.  It is also easier to open since the bank will open the account for customers who have had prior bad banking experiences and been put on Chexsystems (except those on Chexsystems for fraud). The Bank is also flexible about identification needed to open the account and will accept the Mexican Matricula Consular. There are also very low minimum deposit and minimum balance requirements.

The account is currently available statewide. Consumers need only go to the nearest Washington Mutual branch (find one at  www.wamu.com by clicking on "Find a Location") and tell the teller they want to open the "Essential Bank Account."
