CRC Committees

CRC welcomes input from its members in three committees.

Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee guides CRC in bank negotiations that concern Community Economic Development (CED) issues. It also seeks to develop new products and investment approaches to strengthen CED. A major focus for the Committee is to clearly define the range and type of community economic development needs in order to propose how banks can meet those needs. The Committee also works to identify more funding for technical assistance and equity investments for business development.

Housing Committee
The Housing Committee guides CRC in defining specific bank roles in affordable housing. For example, as the Department of Housing and Urban Development and other subsidy funds decrease, can nonprofit housing developers look to bankers for increased funding? The Committee also discusses how to increase the number of banks participating in permanent lending for affordable multi-family housing; rural and urban housing needs; the low-income housing tax credit; and subprime mortgage lending.

Consumer Committee
The Consumer Committee guides CRC in defining specific financial programs and services needed by low-income consumers and consumers of color. CRC uses the ideas developed by the Consumer Committee in its advocacy with various financial institutions. The Committee also acts as a forum to share information and strategies on urgent consumer issues. Examples of current issues the Committee has been discussing include tax refund loans, payday loans and low cost checking accounts.
